ASUS Z170-A A2+B1 supports dual channel configuration
I have ASUS Z170-A motherboard, my A1 slot is defective and i cant use B2 since I have cables running over it at the moment, I'm waiting for a new powersupply to come in. Right now I have my DDR4 3200 2x16gb, ram in A2+B1 and everything I have tried to find online says that it wont be dual channel, (even if it is in different lanes but not matching numbers) but task manager and CPU-Z show that it is in Dual Channel am I missing something or can A2+B1 still do dual channel on occasion depending on manufacture or something? Manual also says A2 B2 first then all 4. could it be showing dual because my first slot is defective? SPD section in CPU-Z shows slot 2 channel rank single and slot 3 same thing if that helps so why does it show dual, is that related to something else? I have no idea what the SPD section is so I do not know if the Ranks in it is even related. Sorry for dragging this on and piling on multiple questions. Not the greatest with computers, so hopefully someone with greater knowledge can answer this.
Unusual setup but I think if you fill both RAM slots with data in separate uncolored areas, it would stay dual-channel. Because regardless of where you place them, as long as they’re distinct channels, it should remain dual like a1 b2 or a2 b1, not single-channel.
