I've used this CPU and motherboard for roughly three years without any big problems. Recently, there were a couple of BSODs mentioning CPU power delivery issues. After replacing the RAM with new Trident Z RGB, it briefly booted, showed signs of post, then restarted without issue. Then it rebooted again, lighting came on, but after a short time it shut down completely. When I tried it a third time, it only powered on briefly before cutting off. I tested it again with the old RAM, a different PSU, and even without any RAM. The only way to get it to start was removing the CPU, which then worked fine. It’s unclear whether this points more toward the motherboard or the CPU—possibly a short in the CPU circuitry or a dead short. Replacing either part would cost around $250 for a new board and about $290 for a new CPU, but it’s hard to say which is more likely. Also, I wondered if the RAM might have caused the failure. I tried inserting the RAM without the CPU, and its lighting still worked.
Have you attempted to reset the CMOS? It’s recommended to do so during a RAM swap because of varying timing requirements.
