Hey there, I recently received a 9800X3D and a ROG STRIX X670E a few days back. I put them together as an upgrade from AM4, and at first everything seemed fine—just a few minor hiccups like the RAM EXPO/XMP profile not functioning properly. I thought it would just need a BIOS update, which turned out to be necessary after an initial issue on my older AM4 setup in 2019. The Ethernet connection also didn’t work as expected, so I switched to Wi-Fi for a short time.

I used Corsair 64 2x32 6000CL30 RAM, but hadn’t yet experimented with overclocking profiles beyond the standard 4800 MHz. Then I upgraded to BIOS version 2604 to ensure compatibility. Everything felt normal until the update went wrong. After what seemed like a smooth finish, the system wouldn’t boot and displayed a Code 00 error with the DRAM light stuck on.

According to the manual, Code 00 means "Unused" or essentially nothing is happening. I tried several troubleshooting steps: clearing CMOS, removing the battery, using a USB flashback to reinstall the BIOS, swapping RAM sticks, and even removing the RAM entirely to check for changes. None resolved the issue.

Eventually, I gave up and went back to my original AM4 board, reinstalled it, and reconnected everything. Now I’m considering returning the Asus board and getting a new MSI X670E, since I’ve never had problems with them before.

I’m curious—does this sound like the motherboard got damaged? Especially since it failed right after the BIOS update? Or could it be the CPU that was affected? The core voltage was only 1.21V when it worked, and it ran for several hours. I didn’t even run XMP yet, so the RAM stayed at 4800 MHz.

I’m worried about the CPU, especially since the stock is still available. Some people think it’s the CPU, others say the motherboard, but usually not right after a BIOS update like this. I’m unsure if I should wait for the new board or consider an RMA for the CPU. It would be strange if it broke immediately after the update, especially with such low stock.

I believe the newest ASUS BIOS might damage your boards. This is the third person this week I've heard try updating to the latest BIOS only to have the board fail with code 00, even after trying older versions doesn't work.

This was only achievable through severe crossflashes (discovered during a G31M vs3 flash to a P5K Pro).

Great to hear! I also own an Asus X670E-E Gaming Wi-Fi board, and today was my planned day to upgrade the BIOS to version 2604. I’ll hold off on that until then. Appreciate the heads-up!

Is the new BIOS really causing issues? Your nephew is assembling his first PC using the exact components you mentioned, but when he tries to post, the BIOS reports errors about the CPU and then shuts down before he can even press Y. He has a brand-new motherboard, and it seems the BIOS might not be recognizing his 9800X3D chip correctly. After seeing this situation, I’m worried updating the BIOS could lead to power loss. Would a BIOS update trigger a shutdown?

Could you confirm if you mean testing a previous BIOS release? It’s not recommended to flash without proper verification.

I don't want to share anything that might ruin someone's setup, but there seems to be an issue. All I can say is that my device froze when I upgraded to 2604, which is the newest version, and it came with 2124—released around July. Use whatever info you have. My MSI MPG X670E arrived on Monday, and I'm planning to test it and see if it boots properly (probably CPU or RAM). Thanks for buying from Amazon; the return policy is easy to follow, and mine is already approved pending my shipment. I’m worried about repeating the same problem now.

We chose to proceed with the BIOS upgrade but not with 2604. Based on Asus' information, the 9800x3d works after the 2403 update, so we'll opt for the safer option first. No issues with older BIOS causing board failure? Just 2604? What do you think?

How did using the 2403 BIOS turn out? Did it function properly or caused issues similar to the 2604? I’m hoping you’ve finally fixed things. I’ve been checking this thread because I haven’t upgraded my board to the 2604 yet either. Perhaps Asus will resolve the problem and release a new BIOS, allowing us to test alternatives without needing the 2604. I’ll be hoping it works. Take care and good luck.
