Hello, I own an Asus X570-P Mobo equipped with a 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen 9 5900 on AM4 socket. My setup includes several M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs and one M.2 SATA SSD (B+M). There’s discussion about using a PCIe card that fits into the PCIe X16 slot, which can handle up to four M.2 drives, but my motherboard only supports one X4 lane in the PCIEX16_2 port. Based on the Asus website, this means the board allows for a single X4 connection. If I choose the Asus Hyper M.2 card, it should work with the available lanes. The product page confirms compatibility with up to four M.2 devices, so you should be able to fit more if you purchase the right model.
The bottom x16 port can only accommodate one x4 drive. Does your BIOS support multiple M.2 drives? These cards usually don’t work well on systems like AM4. Your GPU will run at much lower speeds, so it’s better to use the available M.2 slots and the SATA ports instead.
The electronics expert confirmed the setup works. My BIOS/UEFI supports both M.2 SSDs in the built-in ports. It's not possible to use 5 NVMe drives on an AM4 motherboard with a GPU. You'll need an iGPU or a more powerful card like a Threadripper.
PDifolco caught you off guard! The Geforce 3070ti is occupying the necessary lanes for handling multiple M.2 PCIe drives. The iGPU won’t need any of it and can be used for those drives. Thanks for your guidance. I’ll check the external M.2 adapter I have and see if an internal USB-C adapter card works.
