ASUS TUF Gaming rx 6800xt fails to power on according to the VAG setup tool.
Approximately two months ago, I had the chance to purchase a GPU through the VAG (verified actual gamers) initiative, specifically an ASUS TUF Gaming RX 6800xt with 16GB RAM. Right after setup, I encountered several problems, which are outlined below. Below is a summary of the key specifications: AMD R5 5600X, ASUS TUF GAMING RX 6800xt 16GB, ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi (BIOS 3001), 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 (Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro), and an 850W 80+ Gold PSU. After assembling everything, I powered on the system only to see a white LED error code on the motherboard. I consulted the manual and realized this error suggested the GPU or VGA wasn’t working correctly. I turned it off and reinserted the GPU, but the issue persisted with the same white LED alert. I attempted to reposition the GPU in another PCI-E express slot, which still triggered the error. I also tried using compressed air to clear dust from the PCI slots and the GPU, swapped out the power supply, removed the RAM, and even rebuilt the whole PC—including taking the CPU out and reapplying thermal paste or cooler—but nothing resolved it. Eventually, I decided to stick with my existing GPU to test if the motherboard’s PCI-E slot was faulty. When I installed my current Sapphire R9 270X into the new system, the PC booted normally. I updated the BIOS and adjusted the PCI-E express speeds from 4.0 to 3.0 in hopes of fixing things. Still, neither fix worked. Now I’m left with a $1000 GPU that doesn’t boot at all, though it seems functional otherwise. I’ve searched online for solutions without success. I also reached out to ASUS support, but they haven’t replied after over 90 hours. Anyone else in the VAG program has faced similar problems? Any advice would be invaluable, and thank you in advance.
Yes, there are several options like GPU testing tools or benchmarking software you can use.
I'll give it a shot, it's nothing to worry about. Appreciate the advice!
I also have another setup, but the problem is my present rig only has a 650W power supply, while the GPU needs 750W. I might attempt it since the GPU shouldn’t be consuming full capacity during startup, even though I’ll try it anyways.
I can't verify hwinfo until I ensure the GPU works, but I'll try after a successful boot. Thanks!
The worst situation happened because my old system with the faulty GPU wouldn't start at all, showing the same white LED error. I tried using a 450W 80+ bronze PSU and an Asus ROG Strix B450-F motherboard, but it still didn’t boot. Leaving the PC on for a while also failed to power it up. Thank you for your assistance!
