Just finished installing a new motherboard with the Asus Strix X670E-A. It functioned well initially but recently the Ethernet port stopped working. Wi-Fi still works fine, though drivers need tweaking to get it running. When it fails, it says it "knows" it's connected but complains about IP issues or other setup problems. I've heard the i1225-V chips on these boards can be problematic, so I'm considering if driver/firmware might be the cause. Since I kept both SSDs from my previous PC, I'm wondering if old drivers could still be affecting this setup. A fresh Windows 10 install seems like a good option if needed. If that doesn't help, I have a separate gigabit Ethernet card available, and 2.5G NiC cards are quite affordable.

I face this problem on my X670e Aorus Master and had to switch to Wi-Fi temporarily until I installed a dedicated 2.5Gb PCIe NIC. Now it’s turned off in the UEFI because the frequent connect/disconnect logs in Event Viewer take up unnecessary space with a discrete card. I’ve tried multiple fixes, but none worked. Until a firmware update for the NIC is available, it probably will remain disabled, as that might not fully resolve the issue.

Switching to a completely different system, particularly from Intel to AMD, requires a complete reinstall. Back up any essential data before proceeding, but always opt for a fresh installation. Typically, if this problem arises, using the latest drivers from the manufacturer and ensuring your cable and router are working correctly may prompt you to return the device.

I’m revisiting this discussion with new insights: Restarting the OS resolved the problem temporarily, though only for a short period. Switching to Windows 11 is beneficial since it offers newer drivers and hasn’t caused the issue again since the change. However, I worry the matter could return later. On Linux (Fedora 39), everything functions correctly, suggesting the issue may lie with Windows driver updates. Reports from Asus ROG forums indicate driver-related problems with power-state control and Ethernet controller activation during low-power modes. It appears the responsibility for fixing this rests with Asus/Intel, especially on Windows platforms. Some users have tried workarounds like disabling certain BIOS features or adjusting TCP buffer settings, but these haven’t provided lasting solutions.
