I'm checking the router from my ISP that's on the upper floor. The Wi-Fi coverage varies from decent to weak downstairs. I've considered adding Wi-Fi boosters but thought about a mesh network system. Research suggests Asus routers are among the top choices for consumer devices. My concern is balancing cost and setup needs. I live in a two-story home, possibly moving to a one-story unit soon. That could improve signal strength, so I'm hesitant to commit fully to a mesh setup now. I'm thinking about buying an ASUS router first to test performance, then adding a satellite extender like XD4 or XD5 if needed later. I wonder if a high-end ASUS model would outperform the free Sagemcom router in my current setup?

The router and extra devices need to be compatible with the company's mesh network to function properly.

As long as the router you purchased and any following ones support AiMesh (ASUS mesh ecosystem name), that's fine. I initially got an RT-AC59U, but the signal was weak on the first floor since the router was on the second floor. After that, I added a second one and made it a node. In my opinion, a third-party router usually offers better performance than what your ISP provides, at least in terms of features.
