No one seems to know much about the shortage of this motherboard. It looks like it might be gone from stores, making it hard to find. I’m considering the Z790 instead of the Z690. Thanks ahead and have a good day!

For the UK audience, use the 13th Gen i9 model here: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-rog...4988c38967

These are typically high-end products used in status-driven games.

When they initially launched it, I noticed critics and tech creators were the first to take notice. I’ve seen many impressive setups in top videos online. Yet here we are, more than six months later, and the Z790 Maximus Extreme remains absent from Toronto’s scene. They claim patience is important, but this feels unfair. Plus, I’ve read several times that Asus stopped making this board without any reason. I’m hoping for a clear update on whether it’ll ever be back in stock.

Alright, they likely ran one production batch and then returned to their core offerings since those are the ones driving sales. They can also get parts from them, which adds value. Also, I should mention Linus advises against these boards for a specific reason—they don’t perform well: support is terrible. You pay a lot for unnecessary features, and when problems arise, fixing them takes years because few users are impacted. Do you really need this board? Is it just for flexibility, or do you need a particular set of capabilities you can’t find elsewhere?

The production of the Z790 ROG Maximus Extreme concluded quickly compared to past runs. When I wanted to upgrade my nine-year-old Maximum Extreme V board, the ROG Z790 was listed on Asus’s site with purchase options in Toronto. I contacted Canada Computers via email about stock availability and began sourcing other components for my new build, including a PS and AIO. After days of silence from Canada Computers, I visited their store where staff confirmed the Z790 was still available, possibly within a couple of weeks. Shortly after, the Asus site removed the purchase links. Later, when I returned to Canada Computers, they realized the Z790 was no longer listed. The Z790 offers eight PCIe 4.0 lanes plus extra flexibility for Thunderbolt 4 and high-speed M.2 slots, along with a USB 3.2 Type-C port and 10GbE bandwidth—features that made it attractive. I chose this board because it matched my requirements and should last several years. Now I’m planning to upgrade to the Z690 Maximus Extreme and will update my BIOS for the i9 13900k processor. I’m frustrated with not buying the Z790 sooner, but I wonder if Asus communicated the discontinuation earlier or if I simply missed it. I still hope to locate the board eventually, perhaps even winning the lottery one day.

I meant to add salt to the wound, but it's usually better to purchase the CPU and motherboard first. Still, I acquired them for my initial custom build many years back, and when I finally got the parts weeks later, AMD removed the Gigabyte motherboard I had selected. Despite the challenges, I managed to get it to function after some troubleshooting and experimentation. Sometimes caution isn't worth the reward.

I didn’t take any salt. I understand that caution isn’t always beneficial. If Asus hadn’t displayed the motherboard, and Canada Computers hadn’t included the ROG Z790 Maximus Extreme in their listings, I’d have adjusted my plans accordingly.

Here’s a revised version of your message:

I’m still figuring things out after checking with Canada Computers. I’m leaning toward the Gigabyte Z790 Arorus Xtreme or the MSI MEG Z790 GODLIKE. The ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme is also on my list, but I’ve been thinking about heat concerns. Using a 10GBe NIC card would be necessary, which I’m currently using. I think putting the i913900K in a Z790 motherboard makes more sense. Any thoughts from everyone? Thanks ahead of time! Cheers.
