Do you know if the Corsair Force Series MP600 M.2 will work with the Asus ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero? The heatsink appears large, so it's unclear if it fits under the ASUS M.2 covers. Thanks!

The reasons for adding heatsinks are mainly aesthetic or performance-related, either to improve appearance or to provide extra cooling beyond what standard boards supply.

NVMe PCIe 4.0 X4 M.2 drives tend to generate a lot of heat, making a cooling solution beneficial. I'm running a Sabrent Rocket 256GB NVMe PCIe 3.0 X4 M.2 SSD as my boot disk, and it's a standard drive without a heatsink. I've used the M.2 cover, heatsink, and heat soak on my Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme, which kept temperatures low—around 23°C according to CrystalDiskInfo. In my room it's about 25°C, though it probably drops further. My OS drive stays well below 30°C. The Asus X570 Crosshair VIII Hero comes with its own heatsink, but removing the cover would require a separate heatsink setup. It might affect the appearance or design of the board.

I haven't received the board yet, so I can't confirm. Yes, PCIe 4 tends to get quite warm!

From what I've read, NVMe M.2 Gen4 runs hotter than Gen3, so you'd wanna be sure you get a case with good airflow. Here's a shot of mine, the NVMe M.2 SSD is actually mounted within a heatsink/heatsoak just under the red light just under the Aorus logo on the left, I have pretty good airflow with 2x 200mm front intake case fans, and 1x 140mm rear + 3x 120mm top exhaust case fans (part of my Tt Water 3.0 360 AIO setup. My two SATA SSD's run pretty cool with temps up to 40C+ under load as cool exterior air is being pushed pass them from the front intake fans. Pardon the gaudy RGB, I went nuts on an RGB binge with this build.....
