The issue stems from the chipset on the board. Intel’s documentation states that only Z-series boards officially support overclocking, with a couple exceptions that depend on special fixes. For this model, the Z690 chipset is the only option (excluding a few rare cases). This means most boards can’t overclock unless you add extra components like clock generators.

In practice, very few B660 boards have external clock generators—the only ones known are the ASUS Strix B660-F and B660-G, which are priced similarly to standard Z690 boards and support DDR5. Finding these in stock is difficult, especially in the US.

If you need more details, overclocking a 12600k is best done with a high-end DDR4 board like the MSI Z690-A Pro or an ASUS Prime Z690-Pro D4. For a 12400k, only premium DDR5 Z690 boards are available, making it cheaper to upgrade directly from a 12600k.

It's likely you can increase the BCLK from 100 to 102, but only if you manage it properly. I shouldn't rely on that though—I missed the Z690M-Plus D4 being more affordable than its full ATX version. I still prefer the ATX model for better expansion options and a stronger VRM setup, which should handle a 12600k well enough. The Gigabyte board isn't recommended mainly because LGA 1700 DDR4 chips face compatibility problems and can't reliably run at 3600MHz or higher speeds. Their BIOS settings make it nearly impossible to achieve those speeds.

Refers to the clock speed in GHz. Regarding DDR4 3200 CL16, there are no major concerns unless you're heavily GPU-dependent. Since you play at 1440p, it should work fine unless your GPU struggles with the memory speed.

The BCLK influences the clock speed, but you can't push the ratio beyond its stock level. You'll typically see a maximum 2% boost, meaning the highest gain comes from multiplying the turbo frequency by 1.02. This provides very little extra headroom. Faster RAM will offer more performance gains than any CPU overclock when using the higher BCLK. That should be acceptable.
