ASUS PCE-AC88 AC3100 experiencing loss of connection.
Hey there! I've been dealing with this problem for quite some time now, but I'm finally reaching out because it's really bothering me. I have two ASUS PCE-AC88 AC3100 units—one is my main gaming PC and the other is my media server—placed side by side in separate cases. They're almost touching each other. I thought about connecting them directly with a hard wired setup, but due to the layout of my home and the placement of the computers, it feels like a challenge I'm hesitant to tackle right now. These are PCIe cards, and both are functioning fine most of the time. However, when both are powered on, the wireless card driver sometimes drops unexpectedly—usually starting with my gaming PC and then affecting the media server shortly after. Once this happens, my computer stops showing any Wi-Fi networks until I reboot or manually adjust the settings in Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections. This usually only occurs when the computers are idle, but it rarely happens during intense gaming sessions, which is super frustrating. I've checked online for similar issues, but no one else has reported problems with two units placed together. I've updated the drivers on both machines, and my Windows 10 is fully current. The issue has persisted for over a year, and it seems to work regardless of the Windows version I'm using. Also, when the driver fails, the system logs Event 5002 in the System Event Log. I've attached a screenshot of that entry. Any advice or assistance would be really appreciated, especially since these cards cost a lot. Thanks a lot!
I spent a while trying to figure this out, then discovered the answer. Launch the registry editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\DeviceNumber. To locate your device number, search for ASUS PCE-AC88 802.11ac Network Adapter in DriverDesc. Under PnPCapabilities, switch the value from 10 to 24. Restart your PC.
I tried hoping it would work, but it didn’t. No clear solution or details found. I’ve been checking online for months; it’s really frustrating. I turned off the Wi-Fi adapter and then enabled it again—sometimes it fails and I have to restart the computer.
