Hello everyone, perhaps an expert can offer some guidance on your inquiry. Right now I have an ASUS P11C-i mainboard paired with an i3-9100 and 16GB ECC RAM. After purchasing a GeForce 3060 Ti, I noticed the CPU is somewhat slow (lacks enough cores). I was searching for a faster alternative and came across the i9-9900K. Now I have a few questions...

1. Can the i9-9900K run on the P11C-I mainboard? (According to the datasheet – no, only i3, xeon, or pentium are supported) --> But checking the chipset – yes --> It’s possible the i9 wasn’t listed when the datasheet was released...
2. Can I use the i9-9900K with ECC RAM? (ECC isn’t supported by the CPU, but I don’t need it – so if RAM works without ECC, that should be fine for me.) Maybe my concerns are misplaced, but I’m a bit confused (I lack sufficient background).

EDIT: A compatible CPU option that’s not more expensive than the 9900K would be welcome.
Best regards,
Mathias

The components on that circuit lack sufficient heat dissipation for a 9900K temperature.

I wouldn't feel comfortable adding a 9900K to that board. What purpose is this computer serving?

It's helpful to check the additional details for VRMs and cooling. The mainboard supports up to 95W, but you should verify if your CPU meets the requirements for power delivery and thermal management. For ASUS Intel Xeon E-2286G, the specs list 95W consumption, so ensure your CPU's power draw fits within that range.

The setup is housed in a Fractal304 case while Unraid operates as a NAS. However, I intended to adapt it for gaming or work tasks like CAD, though the CPU speed is insufficient for the 3060TI.

Did you research the Xeon E2176G or E2136 models? These 6-core, 12-thread Xeons from the E21xx line should work with your motherboard. A 6-core, 12-thread Coffee Lake chip is ideal for high-performance gaming, especially since these units can exceed 4GHz. If that doesn<|pad|>’s choice, switching to a B560 ITX board with an Intel 10700(F) would be a solid alternative, costing roughly $450 in the US right now.

Regarding the VRM, we examine its overall dimensions, heatsink design, and estimate the components involved. The board you're using is relatively compact from the start since each part has its limits. Concerning CPU compatibility, it's unclear if it supports i5, i7, or i9. In theory it might work, but in practice Asus could drop support for certain processors due to the board's perceived limitations. You might reach out to the Asus support team, though they often struggle with such in-depth technical inquiries.

I understand the recommendation. However, the cost in Germany is very high – the CPU alone exceeds 500€. Thanks for your feedback! I’ll check the B560 boards, particularly regarding power consumption during idle time.

Thank you for your answers, too. So i have a little bit more background now to ask ASUS for support. And if i see no way to use a non Xeon CPU with more power on this board i have to switch.

Sorry to bother you, but have you ever discovered this? I own a 9700K and am searching for a board that supports IPMI.
