ASUS MOBO activates VGA Q-LED illumination when CSM is turned off
Hello, I recently assembled my initial gaming PC using an ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus (WiFi) motherboard and an EVGA RTX 3060 XC graphics card. I encountered a problem where, after shutting down the system and leaving it idle for a while, the motherboard failed to transmit any signal to the monitor. When I powered it back on, the VGA LED would illuminate, requiring me to restart the PC, cut power to the PSU, wait for the RGB lights to dim, and then restart again so the display could receive the signal. This issue didn’t occur when I rebooted without shutting down.
Additionally, I attempted to improve performance by enabling ReSize BAR on the motherboard, which helped with certain games like Forza Horizon 4, but it didn’t resolve the core problem. I also tried downgrading the BIOS from version 2006 to earlier versions (2003 and 1804) to see if a bug in the firmware was responsible. This process yielded no results.
Before shutting down, I had disabled CSM in the UEFI settings, but after following the steps to get a signal back, the CSM option would automatically turn on again. This behavior occurred across all three BIOS versions. However, when I tried enabling CSM during startup, the issue persisted, requiring me to power off and restart both the PC and PSU.
I’ve explored various solutions online—some users fixed it by downgrading BIOS, others removed the GPU, reset CMOS, or changed settings—but none worked consistently for me. My current specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU (no overclocking), stock cooler, EVGA RTX 3060 XC GPU, HyperX Fury 3200 MHz RAM, ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus motherboard, Nfortec Caelum Black monitor, ViewSonic VX2458-P-MHD monitor.
I’ve documented the steps I took and noted that rebooting doesn’t seem to help. The problem appears to be related to signal transmission during shutdowns, which is different from when the display is active.
EVGA’s site claims their RTX 3000 series cards support resizable bar. When I launch EVGA Precision X1 or NVIDIA Control Panel with Resize BAR turned on in MOBO and CSM off, these apps confirm ReSize BAR is active. If I restart the PC, the display still shows the issue. The problem only appears when the computer is powered down.
Nvidia's resizale bar implementation shows a slight performance boost ranging from a reduction to a gain of about two percent. If you're struggling with this setup and it doesn't quite work as expected, you might be misunderstanding the process. Enhancing your card settings could yield more than a two percent increase in FPS, especially in games like FH4 that you frequently play. For those who have already optimized their cards, adjusting other parameters in FH4 and similar titles can further improve results. Additionally, some software reports GPU support for Resizable Bar, but actual performance may vary.
The latest version of vbios has been released. EVGA’s website also confirms this requirement. The only point I’m making is that the BIOS references I found in your post refer specifically to your motherboard’s BIOS settings.
This matter isn't a complete match for ReSize BAR, even though it's a feature I'd like to see. After rechecking my original message, I realize I possibly wrote it unclear and strayed from the main subject. The key problem is that when the PC starts, the MOBO sometimes fails to recognize the GPU and doesn't transmit any signal to the monitor. I've tried reseating the GPU, inspecting the PCIe slot and connections, cleaning the cable, but nothing resolved the issue. When the display goes blank, I must turn off both the PC and PSU, then restart them, after which the MOBO switches CSM from Disabled to Enabled (even though ReSize BAR is turned off), yet still doesn't send a signal when powering on the PC with CSM enabled. I've also tested different cables—DisplayPort, HDMI—but it hasn't helped.
