I went to the oldest BIOS that could handle the latest chips. Nothing happened. I tried the newest one, but it didn’t work either. The next one worked perfectly. I’m still confused about what’s going on. It runs smoothly with the 4130 in every BIOS version. To show myself I’m not crazy, I built another PC and installed the 4690—it boots right away.

Hit hard. Failed hardware or other problems? Please send photos of the damage. (broken pin?)

Posting photos triggers strong reactions that make me want to grab them and take a cut. The pins appear fine when I use my bright flashlight, but I don’t have a magnifying glass.

The H81I-PLUS functions, though it seems focused on its purpose. To make it compatible with a G3258, I needed to revert to the earliest BIOS version using a suitable CPU. Visit the first BIOS page on ASUS that includes a Windows prep tool, launch it before updating the BIOS, and repeat this process up the hierarchy. You'll need to use the prep utility multiple times and upgrade the BIOS through several revisions. It was a long and frustrating process, but your board is still functional.

Finally, someone has provided an answer! Thank you for your patience. Yes, it seems you're referring to a Windows prep utility, possibly including a BIOS update package for 4th Gen Intel CPUs. The file named "BIOS_updater_for_4th_Gen_Intel_Core_CPU.zip" is likely part of that installation.

It seems there’s no mention of a BIOS on ASUS’ website featuring a Windows prep tool for this board. The search results don’t provide much info on an ASUS Windows prep utility, and related discussions are sparse. It looks like the topic is mostly about laptops in general.

I've had a great experience with all the H81I-plus boards I've tried—they've worked well with almost every CPU I've used. It seems my hopes for better performance might be paying off!

If someone changed the BIOS prior to your use of the tool, it’s fine. If not, you’re free to enjoy yourself. The gods are on your side, my friend.
