I've been using the Asus Eee PC 1015CX for a while now, but it hasn't seen much use lately. I've always dreamed of getting Crunchbang running on it, though there were some noticeable problems. I've tried Ubuntu before, but now I'm leaning toward just installing Windows 7 with as few settings enabled as possible. The Intel Atom processor isn't well supported by Intel, so I'm wondering which operating system would perform best on it. I don't need much from it, just want to find the one that gives me the best performance.

Windows 8 32-bit works well on budget devices (like tablets), though using built-in programs is recommended for smoother operation.

It's unlikely the drivers from Windows 7 would work on Windows 8 without adjustments.

Installed Ubuntu using the Lubuntu-desktop package on your desktop. LXDE performs well when you're familiar with Linux and need strong speed. This setup works smoothly on a Celeron 560 laptop even with limited RAM.
