Hey everyone. I checked the motherboard you mentioned and saw the performance enhancer in the BIOS settings. I'm wondering if leaving it active 24/7 is safe, especially since my CPU stays under 68°C even during heavy use. I've noticed it seems to help, but I'm worried about possibly shortening its lifespan, as some people have mentioned issues after overclocking Ryzen chips.
I previously owned the B450-F, which was the model before me. It featured a BIOS setting named Core Performance Boost. When this was disabled, none of my cores on the 2600 or 3700X would ever reach turbo, even during demanding single-thread tasks. If it was enabled, the voltage would automatically rise significantly, leading to higher temperatures. Eventually, I had to adjust the voltage offset to around -0.250v to allow turbo while keeping temperatures manageable.
Before turning it back on, I’ll need to adjust the voltages. It usually peaks at about 1.4 volts, reaching around 1.38, but the heat would spike to 70°C much faster without the Asus Performance Enhancer. This setup is surprisingly powerful—Cyberpunk 1440p with RT ultra, DLSS, and a custom quality setting still manages 75fps.
Think carefully about your voltage settings on Zen3. Changing it could actually hurt performance unless you're experienced. Overclocking manually might not help and could be risky. The latest PBO version is available, so older tips may not apply. Asus Performance Enhancer is essentially the same as PBO but branded differently. Only voltage can damage your chip, especially with spikes or high voltages. Be sure to research thoroughly before making changes. For Zen3, enabling PBO should raise the default power limits safely. It keeps voltage within AMD's safe range, which is designed to claim better efficiency and compatibility with most boards. Your Strix board handles OC well, even for high-end chips like 5950X. If you're interested in performance tweaks, try the PBO curve optimizer with a negative curve to lower voltage at certain frequencies. Keep an eye on temperatures—stay below 90°C for best results, as exceeding it can cause throttling. Most users tolerate around 90°C without issues, but anything above 95°C may drop performance noticeably. Engineers chose 95°C as a safe thermal limit for Zen3. Above that, you risk losing efficiency and stability. Modern CPUs are much more advanced, so old temperature guidelines no longer apply. Adjusting to the highest PPT you can tolerate while staying under safe temps will give you the best results.
