I’m having trouble getting the BIOS flashback to function properly on my new ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus motherboard. After following the USB flashback steps, the light keeps blinking and stays steady instead of turning off. It appears to sense a USB device—five blinks without a connection, then a solid light—but it can’t locate the .CAP firmware file. I’ve tested multiple USB drives: 3 x 8GB FAT32, 1 x 16GB FAT32, 1 x 16GB microSD with dual readers (FAT32), 1 x 128GB USB 3.0, and 1 x 8GB 2.0 drive with a 2GB partitioned as FAT. All were cleaned and reformatted beforehand.
I’ve tried various firmware versions: the latest from three sources, the oldest compatible with my CPU (Ryzen 5 5600X), two older random versions, and even the Wi-Fi variant. I’ve used the provided scripts to rename the file and manually changed it, but nothing works.
I’ve confirmed I own the correct motherboard and am downloading the right firmware. I’ve connected everything—CPU, RAM, GPU, LEDs, peripherals—and tested without any of them. The CPU is in place, no peripherals, only the power connector. I’ve followed every possible sequence for turning off, on, inserting drives, and pressing the flashback button, yet it always fails.
Power cycling was done using the PSU switch, not the case button. I’m exhausted and unsure what’s wrong. The main goal is to update the BIOS because I can’t get past DRAM detection and updating seems the only online option. My RAM is Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz in two 8GB sticks, and the B550-Plus with Ryzen 5 5600X should handle 16GB of 3600MHz DDR4 without issues.
I’m seeking advice, but I’m not very experienced with PCs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you attempted to reset the motherboard? Take out the battery, let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes (adjust as needed), then put the battery back in. It’s a last resort, but solutions can be found today. Good luck!
I've now tried that, no difference unfortunately. I think I'm just gonna have to call it dead and try to get a replacement.
