ASUS AX88U shows unusual actions after the firmware update.
ASUS has been releasing updates for several problems on many of its routers. I own an ASUS AX88U and installed the update (3.0.0.4.388_24221). I restarted the device before applying it. The upgrade completed smoothly via the in-app utility, check/update, without manual file import. Now I’m encountering a new issue I’ve never seen before. Periodically, all fresh connections stop working. Windows shows no internet access through its Ethernet port, and other devices can’t connect either. DNS and IP requests fail completely. Yet, existing active connections remain stable and don’t disconnect. For instance, if I’m chatting on Discord and the problem arises, the call stays intact while I can’t reach another device by IP. My security system with an active Wi-Fi uplink is functioning properly. Other IoT gadgets still access the internet. The only solution seems to be rebooting the router. Any advice? I’m considering a factory reset and reapplying settings. If that works, I’ll reset again and set it up manually to check if the problem recurs. I’m unsure if I can revert the firmware or import the latest version myself, but that might be the best fix.
I always revert to the previous stable version when encountering unusual issues. Also, the firmware update process I use comes from my DD-WRT/Tomato experience: restore the router to its original settings, log in again, then manually download and install the firmware via the interface, restart it, and reset everything back to defaults. I usually start fresh rather than applying saved configurations. Although this approach is more time-consuming, it hasn't caused any problems so far. Just remember to use an UPS and double-check file integrity before uploading to avoid corruption or bricking.
