Hello! I’m planning to install a new mesh Wi-Fi network at home. I previously had a TP-Link Deco P9 system, but during shipping (by sea) there was an issue where the TP-Link reported a hardware problem. Now I need to reach the seller in another country, as it’s out of warranty. I want to start fresh and set up a new mesh setup.

Here’s what I have: A 1 Gbps connection
A Sagemcom modem/router from my ISP

The connection enters my home through a meter box or cupboard, where the modem is also installed. This could be a good spot for the main mesh AP, but it’s inside a closet. There’s a possibility to drill a hole and mount the AP in the living room.

My main concern is working with my ISP’s equipment. It’s a fiber connection with an NT, and then a Sagemcom modem that also acts as a router. This extra step seems unnecessary. I already experience slower Wi-Fi than the current setup, even when standing close to the modem. I’ve turned off Wi-Fi on the Sagemcom device but kept it enabled for speed tests.

My ISP suggests replacing the modem with one of my own. What advice would you give me? Any specific brand or product recommendations? Also, since our laptops support Wi-Fi 6E, I’m aiming for that upgrade while renewing everything.

You don’t have to pay any fees for the modem/router. If you’re clear on this, would it be possible to skip the Sagecom device entirely and link your existing Deco directly to the ONT?
