Hey there, I’m trying to figure out why loading in Rust takes so long—about 40 minutes while my friends do it in just a few minutes. At first, I thought maybe the internet was the issue, so I switched to Ethernet, but the problem still exists. In the game everything works fine, only the loading is slow.

I’m considering upgrading my PC to fix this, but I want to make sure I choose the right upgrades. Some people suggest switching to an SSD, while others recommend more RAM. I’m not sure if a RAM upgrade or an SSD would help best, or if I should go for a new processor—though I really don’t want that option because it’s too expensive.

My current specs are: CPU i5 7400, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB HDD, and a 1070 8GB GPU. Thanks for your help! Also, if I need an SSD, can I install one on my PC so Rust runs faster?

How does the task manager appear while playing a game? Do you have an SSD for booting? If not, get one—it will significantly speed things up.

I'm not sure, I'll look into it tomorrow since I can't check it right now. Also, sorry if this seems simple, but what exactly is an SSD for booting? Thanks again.

Usually, ssds cost a lot, so people use a ssd for starting up and an hdd for storing data.

Yeah no, I don't have an SSD in my PC. I'm okay with a 256GB SSD, but is it really worth the cost? Should I go for a 128GB one since I'll mostly be using it to run Rust? Also, can I just use my SSD solely for Rust without any issues?

What is your budget? I'm aiming for something around 500gb or larger, and it seems prices are dropping significantly now. You're also interested in having the SSD serve as the boot drive.

What could I do with a budget of around £30-£40 to install the boot drive and Rust on the SSD?

You have the option to choose the installation location for Rust.

It's quite costly, honestly. The system uses about 20gb of rust, so 500gb seems unnecessary. What would the boot drive actually occupy?

What storage capacity are you allocating to your 2tb drive? Windows typically consumes around 60gb with updates and minor applications. I'm considering upgrading to a 250gb drive.
