assistance with overclocking/motherboard
Hi,
I just bought a new PC and wanted to overclock the i5 6600k. I discovered yesterday that my motherboard doesn’t support it. I have an ASRock H110M and learned from others that you need a Z170 chipset for overclocking in BIOS. My main question is: which motherboard should I get that’s affordable yet capable? I’ve seen people achieving speeds up to 3600MHz, but the specs say overclocking options range from 2600 to 3600MHz. Since my CPU runs at 3.5GHz, am I missing something? Also, does every motherboard fit in my current build?
Specs:
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (2133Mhz) DDR4
i5 6600k
GTX 1070
Corsair CX650M
Windows 7
ASRock 110-m
Corsair Carbide SPEC-03
Hyper TX3-EVO cooler
The 2600 to 3600 range applies to RAM overclocking, not the CPU. The standard RAM speed for DDR4 is 2133MHz. Overclocking on non-z170 boards is feasible but not recommended, and the h110 chipset offers the least support for Skylake. All z170 boards should work with your CPU and can be overclocked.
