Assistance with New Rig
Hello, I'm looking for a new setup. I already have the RTX2070 Super, which I got at a great price after Christmas. Now I'm facing a decision about what CPU to install. I've heard Intel 10th generation is coming up, but I'm unsure if it's worth waiting or if Ryzen is better. What do you think? Also, I plan to build a mini or micro ATX PC, but my graphics card is the Asus 2070 Super Dual Evo, which has a powerful cooler. If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it.
Intel 10nm for desktops is no longer viable, so based on your monitor refresh rate, I suggest the R5 3600 or 9700K.
The information provided highlights comparisons between Intel and AMD performance, noting Intel's strong FPS ratings. It also mentions the recommendation of an Intel 9Gen processor, possibly due to its efficiency or compatibility with your 240Hz monitor. The context suggests a focus on gaming performance and hardware optimization.
In certain titles, an Intel alternative could boost performance slightly over a Ryzen, yet the new Ryzen remains much superior to Intel's offerings. I think gamers nexus noted AMD dominated the CPU market significantly. They let Intel fall behind in 2019.
Intel seems to be out of the picture these days, but the R5 3600 is still worth considering. Your budget matters—if you have the means, a 3700x could be a solid choice too.
The 10th generation Intel desktop processors are planned for release in spring 2020 (according to the latest information). They will continue using the 14nm process, similar to the 9th generation, but all chips will support hyperthreading. The new sockets will be LGA 1200. Performance specs include i3 up to 4 cores and 8 threads, i5 up to 6 cores and 12 threads, i7 up to 8 cores and 16 threads, and i9 up to 10 cores and 20 threads. Compared to the previous generation, they feature larger caches and slightly faster clock speeds. Hyperthreading is present across all models, though I don’t anticipate a significant speed boost over the 9th gen.
It depends on your budget. The R5 3600 and R7 3700x offer strong performance at a solid price. Adding an ITX and mATX setup often restricts motherboard choices, which can increase costs. Most compact cases support full-sized GPUs by relocating them to the rear via a PCI-E extension cable. Cooling for the CPU might pose challenges depending on your case design.
The budget isn't limited—I'm looking for options around 3700x or 9700k. The GPU concern seems to stem from the height being 2.28 inches over 5.8 cm.
Thick processors might cause issues in an ITX case, but they should work fine in a mATX. I’d likely pick the 3700x mainly because the 9700k doesn’t support hyperthreading. Both the 3700x and 9700K are solid CPUs, so you should be comfortable either way.
Thank you very much, I was thinking about waiting for the intel 10th gen as I still have my old rig and it is holding well. I also read about the Zen 3 with Ryzen 4000 coming, that will be a good improvement, but is not sure. So I was very confused with these launch dates, as I don't need to buy it right away.
