You can switch the BIOS to boot from USB by default. To relocate it, you need to install Linux on the HDD (erasing everything) or turn the HDD into a live CD. Essentially, don’t do this—just set USB as the default boot drive.

I initially planned to start from USB, transfer the operating system to the hard drive, and retain the USB as a backup for everyday tasks.
