I attempted it multiple times but it continues to report a maximum download size of 266,338,304 bytes for the recovery process (50048 KB)... The attempt ended due to data transfer failure with an unknown error. Total duration was 11.264 seconds.

It was connected using a fresh cable, yet my gadget restarts to Android 6.0 while holding the power and volume up buttons.

You cleared the phone first, correct? (in twrp) The OS loads first, and the gaps won’t restart until you complete both steps.
