Assistance with Ethernet setup or troubleshooting.
I recently attempted to use an Ethernet connection, but it didn’t work as expected—it stayed on Wi-Fi instead, and the Ethernet connection didn’t function properly. I’m wondering if updating a driver or checking something else would help. Also, just to confirm, the cable seems to work correctly.
The cable links to a device. The light appears at the connector. Other machines can use the identical port.
It links to the motherboard through the single Ethernet port, which resembles three monitors but shows no illumination. The laptop's connection icon appears as an extended Bluetooth symbol.
What is the model and manufacturer of your motherboard? You may need to install drivers if Windows didn't automatically detect them during an update. If you're certain drivers exist, a reliable method to check a wired port is to replace the cable with a verified working one, ideally connected to another functioning device over a wired link.
Does it display a link above Wi-Fi when Ethernet is connected? You should navigate to Settings → Network → Ethernet to check. Sometimes Windows doesn’t switch properly and you need to disable Wi-Fi first. It could also be due to missing drivers—check the support site for your device. If you built the PC, visit the motherboard support page and download the necessary networking and Ethernet drivers.
