Assistance with Ethernet issues
I'm experiencing odd behavior with my Ethernet connection on this system. Windows 10 Home is installed, and the built-in network card lists an Intel 1211 Gigabit port in Device Manager. It's running driver version 12.15.184.0 since October 10th, 2017. I've updated drivers and performed a network reset using Windows tools, but testing on Ubuntu didn't resolve the issue. Although I sometimes get partial internet access over Ethernet, packet loss is excessive—ping tests show poor connectivity even with direct links to my router. Speeds are minimal: around 0.07 Mbps down and 0.01 Mbps up, while my actual connection is closer to 3 Mbps down and 0.75 Mbps up. The physical Ethernet cable seems fine, as it works on other computers. The problem appears intermittent, sometimes resolving after a restart or BIOS entry. I'm trying not to rely on WiFi anymore and would appreciate any advice.
Get the latest Ethernet drivers directly from the manufacturer's site.
If reinstalling the drivers for your onboard Ethernet NI interface fails, start by checking if the Ethernet card is damaged on the motherboard. You can try using a different USB-to-Ethernet adapter or another method to confirm whether the hardware is faulty or if the problem lies in the I/O connection before proceeding further.
After roughly an hour trying to update drivers, I used packages from both Gigabyte and Intel sites and reached version 12.14.7.0. It looks like a lower version number, though it was released on November 3, 2017, so I’m unsure. This is the newest download, but when I ran the executable it didn’t install any new drivers, so I had to rely on .inf files. The issue still remains.
