Assistance with CPU ratio, Memory bus ratio, and Uncore ratio
While performing maintenance on my PC and replacing the case fans, I utilized the built-in power button to test the fans. This action led to BIOS configurations being altered after it reported that the latest overclock failed. I opted for the MAX FSB BIOS setting to enable auto-high performance modes, though some parameters remained under-clocked while others were set too high. My goal is to ensure my settings stay at least not under-clocked, aiming for a minor increase. My system remains clean, offers ample airflow, cables are neatly organized, and it features three internal fans. It operates cool as indicated by the Everest sensor data.
Here’s a summary of my PC specifications:
- CPU: Quad Core Intel i7 950 Bloomfield
- MOBO: MSI X58M (MS-7593)
- Chipset: Intel Tylersburg X58
- BIOS: American Megatrends V3.8
- Everest readings:
- CPU Clock: 2465 mhz (originally 3066 mhz) – 205 x 12
- FSB: 205 mhz (originally 133 mhz, 54% overclock)
- Multiplier: 12
- QPI Clock: 3698 mhz
- Memory Bus: 616 mhz
- DRAM:FSB ratio 3:1
I’m currently adjusting the following BIOS parameters:
- Intel EIST: disabled
- Base Clock: 205 (within 100-400)
- CPU Ratio: 12 (12-24)
- Adjusted Core Frequency: 2460
- QPI Link Speed: high speed mode
- QPI Frequency: 4.800GT
- Memory Bus Ratio: 3 (3-8)
- Adjusted DRAM Frequency: 1230
- Uncore Ratio: 6 (6-24)
- CPU Amplitude Control: 800mv (700 - 1000)
- PCI Express Amplitude Control: 800mv (700 - 1000)
- CPU CLK Skew: normal (100-1500ps)
- IOH CLK Skew: normal (100-1500ps)
- Adjust PCI E Frequency: 100mhz (100-200)
- CPU Load Line Calibration: enabled
- CPU Voltage: +0.18
- CPU Vcore: 1.12
- CPU PLL Voltage: auto, default
- QPI Voltage: 1.5
- DRAM Voltage: 1.5
- Spread Spectrum: enabled
Currently, the CPU core frequency matches exactly twice the adjusted DRAM frequency. I believe this was beneficial since both values should align as multiples. My CPU is set to run at 3066 mhz by default, suggesting it might be under-clocked. Similarly, my RAM should operate at a minimum of 1333 mhz, which also feels like an under-clock situation. The FSB is already overclocked, so I think I need to tweak the CPU ratio further. What adjustments should I make for Memory Bus and Uncore ratios? I’m seeking a gentle overclock but want to avoid any under-clocking. Are my voltage settings correct? When I selected the Max FSB option in BIOS to auto-set these, it adjusted the DRAM voltage to 1.65, which was marked as too high, so I lowered it to 1.5. I don’t want any BIOS values in the red zone.
Additionally, a note about the PCI-E configuration: since I have a PCI-E 3.0 card in a PCI-E 2.0 slot, I’m confident it can support higher settings than this motherboard allows at 2.0 speed.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance on these adjustments.
