Assistance with boosting performance for FX-6350
Hello, after spending two decades working with computers, I haven’t really experimented with overclocking much. My current configuration includes some solid Black Friday finds and a few outdated components that I intend to upgrade next year. For the interim, I’m seeking additional performance boosts without risking damage. I aim to keep everything within safe voltage and temperature ranges, ensuring this system remains functional for 6 to 12 months—planning to install Zen+/Zen2 or an Intel 9th generation processor.
Here’s what I have set up:
- CPU: AMD FX-6350
- Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
- Motherboard: AsRock 890FX Deluxe4 (Latest official BIOS, version 1.70)
- RAM: 2x4GB Kingston HyperX Beast 1600MHz
- GPU: GF 1070
- Power Supply: Corsair RM750x
- Case: Fractal Design Define R5 BlackOut
- Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
To date, I’ve achieved a CPU speed of around 4730MHz and DDR3 memory at approximately 1720MHz. I’ll share two screenshots from my BIOS OC Tweaker to illustrate the current settings:

I ran an AIDA64 stability test for about 12 hours; everything stayed stable, with the maximum core temperature reaching 55°C. The only recurring problem has been occasional boot failures, though power indicators light up and fans spin while the system remains in standby. A brief 5-second shutdown followed by a restart usually resolves the issue, and everything operates normally afterward.
I attempted to increase the CPU frequency to 220MHz but encountered difficulties accessing Windows again (two blue screen errors and one freeze).
My question is: what recommendations would you have? Should I accept my current setup or look for more significant improvements? If so, what steps could I consider next? I’m not very familiar with voltage specifications—my main guideline is to keep the CPU voltage below 1.5V for reliable long-term operation.
P.S. Sorry if there are any grammar mistakes; English isn’t my first language.
Edit: Also, note that my usage is mainly gaming (CS:GO, League of Legends, Overwatch, GTA V, and possibly some upcoming titles).
I believe you're at your limit. The 4.8 GHz reached its peak with my 6350, provided there was sufficient stability. I even needed to increase the voltage to 1.52v to achieve that.
