Assistance with an old PC game on Windows 11
In short, I'm attempting to play older, no longer available PC titles on my system with mixed results. I use a second account since the primary one isn't accessible. The LOTR BFME 1 and Conquest games are working well, though the latter has some minor cutscene issues. My 2002 Fellowship of the Ring copy runs fine too, but when I try to play it, the disc fails to load properly—no audio, just a yellow 4:3 window appears, and I can't interact with it. Even after launching it, the drive spins and then stops. Any suggestions? My PC specs are Windows 11, RTX 4070, 12GB RAM, 32GB memory. Updated April 6, 2024 by Tallmonster23
It might be that the existing copy protection on that disc doesn't function well with Windows 11, as the cracked version does. The disc itself could also be damaged over time. Generally, CDs and DVDs degrade with age, though those purchased with retail packaging tend to be high-quality. If you own a game on Steam, you might attempt to add it there by entering the CD key in the Steam client.
You might want to check COMPATIBILITY options. It works well with WinXP or WinME. Recently, someone tried running a game similar to "Shelly CLUB" for their daughter using compatibility settings for Win95. A few people found help by adding older DirectX or VisualC runtimes on their computers.
