I recently purchased a DVD reader, but connecting it via a SATA to USB adapter isn't functioning. It powers on automatically when turned on. Pressing the eject button causes it to close, pause for a moment, then reopen. It doesn't close properly. I've checked internal SATA connections, downloaded drivers, adjusted device settings, and even used it on both laptops and desktops without success. Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems there may be an issue with the mechanism, possibly a stuck part preventing full closure or a faulty switch that fails to signal completion, causing it to reset.

It’s usually impossible to tell until you take it apart and check how it functions, because you can’t see what’s wrong without doing that.

The DVD stopper appears to be in solid condition, securely holding the tray.

Curious about what might occur if you leave it open and then turn it on, gently pushing while it closes. Could indicate a problem with the closure mechanism. Updated December 13, 2025 by Hellowpplz

I believe I resolved the problem with the DVD drive not shutting down. You can view it here. However, now when I attempt to close the DVD tray to check the system, the reading mechanism lifts and stops the tray from closing. What should I do?

This shouldn't be the intended direction.

It looks like the gears might be off by a bit, so the tray should lift just once it's fully in place. The drive likely uses a belt to move the tray, which suggests it’s worn out and should be replaced. Probably nothing else was necessary.
