I've noticed previous discussions about my setup and the XPS 8500 build. Some folks debated the connection layout, with conflicting views on whether the provided diagram was accurate. Others reported success despite similar concerns. I'm unsure if anyone has hands-on experience with this particular configuration, but I'd appreciate any insights before investing $70.
Decide where to label them—on the PCB near the connector or embedded within it. Alternatively, observe the connections in the panel and trace the cables back to the motherboard.
I tried this with a motherboard from an XPS 8300, and the design matched the diagram closely. Now I'm not entirely confident it will be identical, but I think they wouldn't make major changes since the case layout is nearly the same between the 8300 and 8500 models.
I'm also working on an XPS 8500 case upgrade and have a twelve-pin front panel connector with unique wiring compared to the previous setup. Pins 9, 11, and 12 are connected together on the original connector block since I don't have the original reset button. I replaced it with a new reset across pins 7 and 8. I removed the old connector by cutting through positions 7 and 8 to reuse the jumper ends of the rear jumper blocks—12 black, 11 black, 10 filled 9 black (not used), 8 blank, 7 blank (not used), power switch 6 brown, 5 blue, power switch, power LED 4 white, 3 black, HDD LED power LED 2 red, 1 yellow, and front HDD LED.
