Hi everyone, I'm trying to boost my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU to around 3.0 GHz. It's currently running at 2.4 GHz. I'm using the Dell Precision 390 motherboard and don't seem to have a cooler installed, but I might need one. I'm also using a GeForce GTX 650 graphics card with 3.25 GB of RAM. Could anyone help me figure out how to overclock my CPU?

It's unlikely you'll be able to customize an OC for a Dell OEM motherboard, particularly a Dell Precision 390 setup. The necessary controls aren't accessible to regular users. This type of board is intended for workstations and isn't built for overclocking.

This thread is about an older dual CPU setup. Can I upgrade the CPU instead of just overclocking? I think so—if I could overclock it, I’d likely achieve a stable 3.2 with the current components, and the cooling system is good enough.

This is an old thread... But i have a core 2 duo e6600, but also inside a precision 390... is it possible i can upgrade the cpu instead of overclocking it? im sure if i COULD overclock i could get a stable 3.2 with whats in there, the cooler is real decent.
