I have a i5 6500 and a asrock z170 motherboard. I got the version of the bios that lets me overclock however it does not let me change the voltage. It has something called mV which is millivolts. Does anyone know anything about this or has overclocked with this exact motherboard?

Then run a stress test with cpu-z & hwinfo onscreen , cross reference the core voltage under load , if you're below 1.36v & your cooling is adequate you really don't have much to worry about.

Overclocking a locked CPU won't produce excellent outcomes... and you risk harming the CPU, rendering it inoperable.

It wouldn't be advisable to install OC on a non-K CPU. Both Intel and ASRock have taken steps to prevent this, removing the SkyOC function to avoid potential damage.

Andrew Murdoch:
Hey BringerOfTea, nice setup...
😉
I kept it steady at 4.6 but dropped it to 4.5 when the temperatures weren't too high in quiet mode on Corsair Link.
😀

Andrew Murdoch would not suggest using an OC for a non-K CPU. Intel restricted it, and ASRock also took away the SkyOC option to prevent harming those CPUs. You might be able to overclock them, but you'll need an older BIOS version, which I possess.

overclocking a locked cpu won't give excellent outcomes... and you risk harming the cpu, rendering it worthless.
But take a look at this lengthy article

Many people try to overclock their non-K Skylakes without problems, and it actually improves gaming performance significantly.

Andrew Murdoch shares his thoughts on OC'ing a non-K CPU. He mentions Intel restricting it and ASRock discontinuing their SkyOC feature to prevent damage. He notes he has an older BIOS and simply advises against it without discouraging the attempt.
