I’m trying to figure out where to begin.
Recently, I upgraded my CPU and RAM in January so I could play games such as RUST and SQUAD, along with other high-end titles.
My PC was built in December 2019; it originally came with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, Radeon Vega 8 graphics, and 16 GB of 2666mhz RAM.
Until about two days ago, the games ran smoothly at around 90–100 FPS, with no interruptions.
Two days ago, after turning on my PC and updating the Rust game, it suddenly slowed to roughly 40–75 FPS, especially in busy or action-heavy scenes, dropping to 20–30 FPS.
I’ve uninstalled all graphics drivers and reinstalled them, updated the BIOS, but nothing has improved.
I haven’t made any changes recently that could have caused this issue.
I’m seeking guidance on what might be wrong and how to resolve it.

My specs: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X (stock cooler), 32GB 3200mhz RAM (though I can’t reach 3200mhz in BIOS due to power issues), ZOTAC Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 (stock dual fans), Kingston 225GB SSD, Seagate 2TB Barracuda HDD, Thermaltake SMART 500w PSU, and ASRock Steel Legend B450M AM4 motherboard.

When you updated the CPU and RAM, did you also replace the motherboard? What specific RAM package do you use? If it's 2x16GB, are those slots set for dual-channel usage? Operating with standard speeds instead of 3200MHz would significantly impact performance. Did any issues arise only after installing the new CPU and RAM, or did everything function properly initially? What were the CPU and GPU temperatures during gaming sessions?

GPU temperatures can vary between 50 C and 60 C

and yes they were placed in the right slots 1x 3 or 2 x 4 correct? that was before I had 32GB though

You're combining two kits and using four dimmers. Remove one kit and place it in slots 2 & 4, not 1 & 2. Make sure to enable DOCP at 3200mhz. Mixing kits, even identical makes and models, doesn't always work. Using four dimmers increases the chance of problems when reaching higher speeds. Consider using a 2x8gb drive at 3200mhz to check if it resolves your issues. Also, run userbenchmark again. A tool like MSIAfterburner helps track CPU temperature over time, but the benchmark score suggests temperatures are acceptable.
So if I needed 32gb of ram, I’d probably have to purchase a 32gb kit, right? Or how would that actually work? I ended up getting an extra kit just for no reason—I’m really frustrated and just curious about the best way to use four dimmers or if a better motherboard would help. It might be why it worked temporarily but now isn’t. I’ll try what you suggested and see if it makes a difference.
You can try getting the 2 kits to work together at 3200mhz by raising the voltage. The general consensus from what I read is 1.450v is the max safe limit. I currently run my RAM at 1.410v as I have overclocked it from 3200mhz CL16 (rated speed) to 3600mhz CL16. The other thing you can try is increasing the timings or running 2933/3000mhz. If you want to run 32GB the best solution is using a 32GB kit. There is no guarantee mixing kits will work or if it does work it may not run at rated speeds. Do you know if CPU-Z could indicate whether the RAM timing is incorrect? I'm just asking, I'm curious. The two kits seem to work together well—they register correctly and don't cause crashes or booting problems. However, if this is what's causing the lag, I'm not sure why it wasn't an issue before. I recently rebuilt the system, replaced the CPU and RAM in January, and everything functioned normally until early March. I thought the graphics card might be the culprit, but after checking everything, it seemed to work fine (per Userbenchmark, etc.). It only started behaving strangely this weekend, which is why I'm puzzled about the previous stability. I'm currently working, but when I get home I'll try using one kit clocked at 3200mhz and see if it works, though I don't understand how it wouldn't have been an issue before. I've also attempted to run both kits at 3200mhz, but they display a red color indicating voltage levels. I can take photos when I get home.
