I’m working on this because the original product key won’t work here, and I’m looking for guidance. Yesterday I tried to install Windows Media Center on Windows 8.1 and ended up with an edition that requires a reinstall. I’m considering two options: a full reinstall, which feels risky, or using the forum link you mentioned to jump to Windows 8 Pro instead. I need someone familiar with Windows 8 Pro to show me a screenshot of the registry section for that part and hide any sensitive info. I’m trying to stay calm by listening to music and making sure this is the right step before proceeding.

To use your Windows 8 Pro key on a Windows 8.1 Pro installation disk, you need the KMS key "GCRJD-8NW9H-F2CDX-CCM8D-9D6T9". This key helps you complete the installation without activating it, and once done, you can activate it using your Windows 8 Pro key.

You're asking about a Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It's an upgrade that adds Media Center functionality, along with the necessary codecs to work it. You can still use all the features of Windows 8.1 Pro, but Media Center requires additional codecs, such as a DVD codec, to play DVD movies through it. It doesn't work with the standard Media Player for DVDs.

It modified my ID (the real one) and after a few updates when inserting the random ID in that Add features part, it installed the updates and now I can't revert. Plus my original ID doesn't function with that Windows version, so I had to downgrade to W8.1Pro from W8.1 Pro WMC edition.
