I own an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 with 3.85 GHz and a Nvidia GTX 1660 Super with 16GB RAM. I’m an enthusiastic American Truck Simulator player watching on a TLC smart TV 43. I need to upgrade but don’t know where to begin. My goal is to play at least 60fps in 4K, but I’m experiencing a lot of stuttering. Running it at 1080p with 150 scaling helps, but I’m looking for advice on what to do next. Thanks!
I play ATS avidly as well and ran it just fine on a 1700 with a 1650 Super displaying on a 43" Toshiba FireTV, now using a 55" Sceptre, both at 60hz. Of course I was also running ATS from an M.2 and with 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, which helps. But I don't think your display is the issue, it's more likely your RAM speed. You don't mention the motherboard model or RAM speed, but that is likely a lot of your issue. Most 2000-series Ryzen processors I've seen folks asking about on here were on A320 boards with DDR3-1333 Mhz RAM, and the boards generally did not support any faster RAM. You might try lowering your display resolution, scaling and graphic detail to see if it helps. There's also a refresh rate setting you can tinker with, I would make sure it's not trying to refresh too fast. For the price of more performance 1333, you could get 32MB of DDR4-3200 and a motherboard that will support DDR4, an M.2, accept your 2600, AND allow a faster processor upgrade later. If you go that route, I recommend the Asus TUF Gaming B550-PLUS or B550-PRO. Also, I recommend Crucial Ballistix RAM for Ryzen, it's what I have both in my previous 1700 and my recent 5900X build. Choose a larger GPU first, then upgrade to a better CPU. RTX 2060 is the lowest spec needed for 4K at 60 frames per second.
The 3070Ti has some issues at 4K with certain titles, possibly due to settings. You might want to try a 3080 or similar model. I'm aiming for maximum performance, but maybe lowering some settings could help.
At 4k60 it’s clear—upgrading to a 5600x and a new motherboard is essential. Adding a PSU upgrade makes even more sense.
