Assassin’s Creed Syndicate keeps freezing and stuttering, even though my computer setup is really solid.
I recently purchased AC Syndicate and began playing yesterday, much to my surprise, the game isn’t running smoothly on my system. I genuinely believe my PC has the capabilities to handle this 2015 title without issue, but that’s clearly not what's happening.
No matter how I adjust the graphics settings – ultra, high, low – whether VSync is enabled or disabled, or if I play in full screen or windowed mode, it makes no difference at all.
I’ve already spent considerable time researching potential solutions and trying various “fixes,” but nothing seems to resolve the problem. My video card drivers are up-to-date (Adrenalin 20.5.1), as are my latest VBIOS, Windows, chipset, and motherboard drivers. The only driver that hasn’t been updated is my BIOS – I'm hesitant to update it because my motherboard doesn’t have a built-in BIOS selector. I bring this up due to numerous reports of Ryzen systems experiencing instability, and some RAM kits also having compatibility issues with the platform. My Windows installation is just over a month old, coinciding with the purchase of my new CPU and GPU last month; I performed a completely fresh install on an empty SSD.
Here’s a breakdown of my system:
Ryzen 3800x (running at stock settings).
Asus B450 Plus Gaming motherboard.
2 x 8GB Patriot Viper Steel 3000MHz RAM.
ASRock RX 5600 XT Phantom Gaming GPU.
Kingston A400 SSD – 480 GB.
I’ve included a video demonstrating the issue, showing that changing graphics settings has no effect. I used RivaTuner to monitor my hardware during the stuttering and observed significant drops in both CPU and GPU usage when it occurs. Initially, I suspected performance issues related to my slow HDD, so I moved the game to an SSD; however, this didn’t change anything.
I've also attached screenshots of my system information from CPU-Z and GPU-Z for reference.
Honestly, I’m completely stumped. I took detailed screenshots and documented all my hardware components hoping someone can identify if there might be a problem with my CPU or RAM, or perhaps another underlying issue. I'd greatly appreciate any assistance; I really want to enjoy this game but the stuttering is incredibly frustrating. Thank you for your time and attention.
Please forgive me if I’ve made any errors in my writing – English isn’t always my first language.
Oh and just to add, the only other game that had this similar problem was RDR2 but changing the API from Vulkan to DX12 fixed the issue. But AC Syndicate don't give you the option to do that and with RDR2 only my GPU was going from high usage to 5~0% with AC Syndicate both my CPU and GPU are doing that...
