It’s a solid choice for the Ryzen 4600G without overclocking. The B550M-HDV offers decent performance and reliability for everyday use.

It's a bit confusing, but you're asking about the reasoning behind certain product weights and pricing. The higher weight (4600g) and specific models (b550 vs b450) likely relate to performance or features, while the pricing suggests value for money.

Sure, just setting PBO on without using Prime95 should work. It’s a strange combination of board and processor, but it should function.

It's an unusual choice because it doesn't fit the usual pattern.

You might not need much power, as a B450 should suffice for that chip even without GPU support.

You won't gain any benefits from upgrading to B550 over B450, and there are several B450 models in the same price range that perform better. Most B550 boards outperform all B450 boards. The top-tier B450 boards surpass the lower-end B550 options while matching their cost. (Remember this applies to current US prices, but it should work elsewhere as well.) The ASRock board you referenced costs $80. If you opt for the ASUS B450M-A II instead, you'll find a board with identical features but more SATA ports, BIOS flashback, a real VRM heatsink, and four DIMM slots rather than two. Its sole benefit is support for PCIe Gen 4, though the 4600G doesn’t actually use it. So, you might prefer the ASUS version. If you aim for something closer to the ASRock B550M-HDV on B450, consider the MSI B550M Pro-M2 Max at $69—a nearly identical build with no Gen 4 support. That extra $11 lets you upgrade to an R5 5600G, which offers a significantly better CPU than the 4600G. Overall, with B450 you typically get a more capable system for the same budget, either through a superior motherboard, a better CPU, or by investing the additional $5 in a higher-end component.

It means the 4600G works well with the ASUS B450M-A II motherboard.

It would work well together, actually. I’d favor the 5600G and B450M Pro M2 Max, though the B450M-A II seems like a stronger board option.
