Hi everyone. I'm using the ASRock Phantom Gaming 4 and it keeps displaying a Southbridge temperature of 33°C regardless of what I do. The issue is that the case fans don't turn on properly, even during stress tests. The motherboard has the latest BIOS and chipset updates. Is this a faulty product? When I run Cinabench, the mainboard and CPU temperatures are increasing, but the Southbridge stays at 33°C and the fans don’t speed up. Thanks for your help—it’s really frustrating.

The fans run at the system's base temperature by default, not just the CPU temperature. This helps maintain consistent cooling across all components.

You realize the mistake by comparing it to the B550 chipset, which isn't heavily affected by load. It's not strictly a southbridge, but the name might still apply in the firmware context.

B550 includes a south bridge. Similar to contemporary Intel and AMD processors, motherboards no longer feature a north bridge. The south bridge links PCI-e, Ethernet, SATA, audio connections, etc. Going back to your query: Make sure your case fans match the CPU temperature. Fine-tune them to the noise level you’re comfortable with. I like having them increase to full speed once the CPU reaches around 55°C. Although my fans aren’t very loud initially, you might want to raise their speed slightly—like 60 or 65°C—to improve airflow. More fans running at lower speeds tend to perform better than a few spinning at maximum to maintain cooling.

Typically, a southbridge links the northbridge with PCIe connections, making the B550 chipset primarily a PCIe switch because it handles PCIe lanes straight from the CPU.

I’ll let the case fans manage the CPU temperature. I’ve already adjusted the threshold to 65°C because the stock cooler for the Ryzen 3600 is quite loud, and with XMP RAM it can get hotter than usual. Also, thanks to everyone for the conversation!
