You can still use dual-band AC if you upgrade to a router that supports both bands.

Dual band allows it to work on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies; it doesn't guarantee AC compatibility. You can find dual-band routers that handle only a few speeds, which are still okay but not exceptional if you're accustomed to gigabit connections.

This setup is limited to Wireless G and N bands only when it's affordable. Make sure you invest adequately to obtain a reliable router or wireless access point with Wi-Fi 6 support.

Yes, it offers dual-band functionality and supports AC power. It represents a significant improvement over your existing setup, but you'll still need to use your current router as a modem, as the Asus device can't function that way. If your existing router lacks modem capabilities, some adjustments may be required for proper network configuration. For just AC access, an access point might be more cost-effective and simpler to install.

I just discovered a support guide you’ll need – it explains switching the modem into Bridge mode, which is essentially the same as setting it to Modem mode. https://arris.secure.force.com/consumers...tedArticle The key takeaway is important – NOTE 1: If your device is leased, the feature might not be available. Before buying the Asus router, verify this because without Bridge Mode you could face issues like "Double NAT," which often leads to configuration problems and app failures.

The key distinction lies in their primary functions—access points focus on wireless connectivity while routers manage data traffic between networks. When bridging occurs, the router typically handles both routing and network management, whereas the modem/router primarily serves as a gateway for internet access. Yes, in such setups, the router acts as the central hub for connected devices via Ethernet.

1. An access point only has the ability to connect devices wirelessly - it still requires a router on the network to handle things like DHCP (handing out addresses to clients), routing of traffic and firewalling. 2. In this case, that is correct yes. Only one Ethernet port will work in Bridge mode, so you'll connect the Asus' WAN port to that one on your current router. At that point, your Asus router will do all the functions your current router does, and your current router will turn into a modem only, linking your Asus router to the internet via your cable connection.
