Ask about public folder file sharing
I'm trying to share my files between computers on the home network by using public folders. File sharing is turned on in the Advanced File Sharing settings for Private, Public, and All Networks. I also made sure SMB 1.0/Client... was enabled. But I still can't share any files. Could you help me out? Chobe
Here is a casual rewrite of your request:
Please update this post with all the details about your computer's hardware and operating system. Also, tell me how you plan to set up file sharing. Could you share some link(s) showing the right steps for that process? If the connection fails, what exactly do the error messages or pop-ups say? And finally, what specific admin rights are you trying to get?
My computer is a 64-bit one made by Asus with an Intel i5-11400 processor running on Windows 10. This system has 16 GB of RAM, but only about 10.3 GB is actually usable right now. I'm using the "Network and Sharing Center" to set up my computer's folders for sharing. In the advanced settings, I turned on Network Discovery so that files can be found easily, and enabled File and Print Sharing for private networks. I also wanted to turn on 128-bit encryption under All Networks to keep things secure. However, when I tried to share some specific public folders, I got a message saying I could not change those privileges because the user account is locked down. After that failed attempt, I just went back to using the Network and Sharing Center instead for now. Thanks so much!
I've tried a few other things. I checked these services are running and turned their start type to Automatic. Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host are all set up correctly but still can't share files. Any idea?
