Do you have any suggestions to address the micro-stuttering? Everyone else seems to handle it without issues. This problem often appears when searching online, as many people discuss it.
How long this has been happening? Also, Arma III requires a significant amount of CPU power.
The main problem often arises because Arma 3 runs extremely well on optimized systems. You haven't experienced any micro-stuttering, so adjusting settings might help. Updating your drivers could also be beneficial if you haven't done so recently.
DayZ Standalone performs better with SSDs compared to HDDs, as it reduces in-game stuttering. Given the similarities between the two games, trying an SSD would be a good idea if you don’t already have one.
Your PC might also need improvement. Many people recommend that Arma 3 performs best on a fast single-core CPU, and a newer i7 processor would be ideal.
I haven't updated the game in quite some time, maybe a bit. When I finally loaded it today, this is the first time I've noticed any stuttering. A few years back, everything ran perfectly, no interruptions.
My system performance is stable and it can manage the load just fine. It's operating in the 40s to 60s range. The GPU usage sits between the 60s and 80s. All metrics are within normal limits.
It looked optimized almost perfectly a year ago.
Me? I haven't been using it for quite some time either. Back then, with just 8GB of RAM, I experienced the last minor micro-stutter, which was in GTA 5.
I've experimented with it and it seems to boost my frame rate when I lower settings. That helps, but it doesn't eliminate the stuttering entirely.
I've kept using the same drivers for about six months now because every other game runs smoothly with them.
This is what's driving my interest. Two main points: first, moving around 50 feet forward and then turning back 100 feet causes the stutter to lessen and almost vanish. Second, when I explore new areas, I can hear my hard drive loading the game, unlike in other titles where this isn't noticeable during movement. Most other games don't exhibit such behavior.
These observations, combined with my limited experience playing Arma III, suggest it would benefit from an SSD installation to avoid stuttering. Yet, I also think the recent Windows updates—especially the Creators patches—might be contributing to this issue. It seems someone (likely those who still play regularly) might have a solution. No, my PC is functioning well. It handles all games with minimal problems and exceeds both the minimum and recommended requirements for Arma III.
Perhaps I'd appreciate hearing from others who play it perfectly on an i5. I was one of those around a year ago. There must be a reason it worked then but not now.
It might be a low-quality hard drive. An SSD performs significantly better across all aspects. In Arma 3, it only consumes 30-40% of my GPU and CPU constantly, giving me 20-30 FPS in King of the Hill. Considering your stuttering problem, I’m hoping that isn’t perfect optimization.
This could be quite likely. It's been around for about a year and a half and is packed with games—around 3TB. My 1TB HDD with Windows installed also has that size. If this is the cause, wouldn't the stuttering appear in other titles too? I play many games daily and haven’t noticed any problems. Not related to lifespan, but I’m hesitant to switch to an SSD since I’m okay with a bit longer loading times on an HDD. However, this new issue bothers me if it’s linked to my HDD. It might actually be the first real reason I’d consider upgrading to an SSD. I might get one when I receive my new PSU soon and could possibly claim a mail-in rebate for it.
Wow, that’s quite low FPS and usage. Is that because of King of the Hill? I’m not sure about that game mode yet. And was it like that a year ago in Arma III?
It was so perfect around a year ago. Something must be responsible for that. If I manage to fix this stuttering, there would be no other problems with the game. Of course, I haven’t spent enough time in other modes to uncover more issues.
SSDs are now essential for many games, particularly those with expansive worlds and detailed textures. Load times for DCS World and Squad have dropped to 5-10 minutes when using HDDs, while Arma's still had noticeable lag during fast transitions between models and textures. Switching to a RAID 0 setup on HDDs helped somewhat, but Arma 3 performed better after moving it to an SSD. Games also suffer more delays if they're stored on the same HDD as your Windows page file, making it harder to load new content quickly.
For me, fps would temporarily decrease and objects would appear as basic untextured shapes before smoothly adopting their proper Level Of Detail textures. This process would happen each time I spun around or turned quickly.
When moving forward and facing ahead, the experience remained stable because the game could load objects and textures at a distance and adjust the detail level as I approached. This worked well unless I was in a helicopter or plane, which could see further and load faster than the game. View distance also mattered, but Arma typically doesn’t render much beyond 4500 meters even with a 10 km view distance setting.
