today i attempted to play arma 3 using an fx 6300 and a r9 380, but i only managed around 20 fps or less. people with stronger cpus usually get 70 or 80 fps with my graphics card. what’s going wrong?

It requires a lot of CPU power. Consider turning off some settings to shift the workload to the GPU, which could improve performance. There are helpful tutorials explaining how each adjustment impacts speed—use them to manage CPU-GPU balance. A 6300 processor isn’t powerful enough, so don’t expect significant gains.

arma demands high processing power and performs well with fewer powerful cores rather than many slower ones. Remember, the game's frame rate depends not only on your hardware but also on mods and server settings.

Arma 3 works best on single-core processors, especially those with Haswell or newer architecture running at 4GHz or higher. Even then, performance often drops below 60 fps, with lows around 40 fps. The game favors Nvidia graphics because they reduce CPU load. This means your setup is at its least ideal for the title, which explains the poor frame rates. Developers have been pushing Bohemia Interactive to improve this for years.
