So, lately I mostly play MSFS2020. I'm using my system with these specific specs. Generally speaking, the game runs pretty well but sometimes has stuttering problems especially at high altitudes and busy airports. In 1440p High End preset (the second best, Ultra is even better) I get 50 to 70fps when flying high in the air or on complex airliners. But during takeoffs and landings at crowded airports, my frame rate drops to low to mid 30fps. It's getting time to upgrade soon. My wish list includes a 13700k system with DDR5 RAM and maybe an RTX4080 when it launches. I probably can't do both upgrades right now. Should I buy the RTX 4080 first or should I upgrade my CPU, motherboard, RAM, and cooler first? For most games, upgrading the GPU will give a big boost in performance. But that might not be true for MSFS2020 since it is very heavy on the CPU... What do you think?

Sig space specs can and will change over time, which is why we ask that the info be included in the thread's body to aid any other user in the same predicament as you're in now. That being said, how old is the PSU in your build? You could make do with the GPU first but with how things are with the cream of the crop RTX 4090 and the story of PSU's being the issue(and power), you might need to swap the PSU for something more beefy. The card hasn't been released yet, you could do with a platform change as a start, though if I were you, I'd save the funds, be patient and wait for the RTX4080 to come out, wait for reviewers to flood the www and then decide on a purchase.
Yes, my settings match what's currently on the system. My power supply is less than two years old. I wanted an RTX 3080 but ended up skipping it because that card has launch issues. I probably won't get an RTX 4090 at all... maybe I'll go for a 4080, but only after all the little problems are fixed. Since Microsoft Flight Simulator is mostly CPU bound when flying in airports or close to the ground, where you want smooth performance over 30 frames per second, upgrading my processor first makes sense. For GPU-bound situations (which happen high up in the sky far from the ground), I get around 60fps anyway. No rush to change a card yet.
I don't think a 13700k and RTX4080 pair needs a 1000-watt power supply unless you are pushing the CPU and GPU way past their limits, running heavy benchmarks constantly without any break. Even with moderate overclocks and just normal gaming, this setup won't really use up more than about 850 watts of power.
