Are you truly relying on the quickest connections?
Typically when I download from a website, my speeds stay around 37 MB per second. On a 1,100 Mbps plan, I actually get the full speed during tests. All sites seem to cap at 37 MB per second, which is why I’m limited. Using a VPN might be the reason I can’t exceed that. A 400 Mbps plan could work just as well for my needs. It feels like I’m paying for speeds most websites can’t handle. While Steam downloads are fast, I don’t use it often. I mostly browse YouTube and TikTok on my phone, with no kids using the internet. Just looking for some advice.
You don't require the quickest internet connection. Games would simply slow down the downloads. I'm handling everything smoothly with a 300 Mbps speed, just playing games or watching videos. A 20Mbps is enough for streaming 4K content on YouTube. I've managed it well on a 75 Mbps plan for five years while living alone. Downloading big games was slow, but I could do it while resting or exercising.
You're just going through the motions with everyday tasks—browsing, playing games, watching videos—but only when absolutely necessary. I have a fast gigabit connection for those moments when I really need to back up or download data quickly. Most of the time, I could manage at a slower speed, but those special instances are what make it so useful.
I started with 300Mbps after moving into my apartment—it worked well. Over the past year and a half, the provider boosted it to 900Mbps without any extra cost (it's their lowest package). I didn’t see a noticeable change in my daily usage. Every now and then I download a game from Steam to test the speed, but it doesn’t significantly impact my experience. In short, if you were in my situation, choosing the cheaper plan would save you money.
Steam handles 1gb/s locally, but time really matters to you. I’m eager. When I need to watch a film or play a game—especially with friends already setting up—I get frustrated waiting. With 36 devices connected, it adds another layer. Speeds and costs don’t always match expectations. Discover your ideal range and enjoy the moment.
