msi 990xa-gd55 Board
Fx 8350 8-core Processor
Evga Gtx 970 FTW video card
Kingston Hyper X 4gb ddr3 X 2 Memory Sticks
1 Sata 7200 rpm Hard drive
1 Cd/Dvd rom
7 120mm Cooling fans
Thermaltake TR2 600w Psu
Antec 1100 v2 Case
I tested the extreme calculators with all my gear, and it’s saying I only need 487w. Another was about 500w, but I’m still unsure. The PSU is a few years old now. I’m thinking about overclocking, but I’m worried about power problems or maybe compatibility issues because both the PSU and RAM are older.

You should be able to achieve a modest overclock. Keep in mind it doesn't operate at 600w; it's a bit lower, and if you're already using 500w, you have limited room for improvement. Upgrading the PSU is always a good idea since it's not reliable. An EVGA, G2, GS, or a solid Seasonic unit in the 650-750 watt range will work well and provide ample flexibility.
