Hey everyone, in short I have two graphics cards and I'm curious—will using both improve my rendering and other GPU-heavy tasks? My system specs are: AMD Ryzen 7900X, 128GB DDR5, ASUS ROG Strix X670E with Wi-Fi 1000 and Seasonic Platinum. I also have an RTX 4080 and a future RTX 3070 to add. Thanks!

What tools are you employing? The choice often hinges on application compatibility, though most platforms accommodate it. Running two GPUs together can limit performance to the weaker unit, meaning your 4080 would operate at the speed of a 3070.

It’s wise to avoid bottlenecks in your workflow. If 3070 elements limit the performance of 4080, it’s better to simplify or optimize. This helps speed things up in Blender, UE5, and After Effects.

They won't utilize two GPUs as intended. This setup should leverage both, potentially offering significant performance gains, especially when using Cycles with Optix. If you already possess the GPU, simply connect it and test it.

Blender usually works well, but you still need to set it up. Version 5 doesn’t support it, and After Effects doesn’t handle multi-GPU well—pretty frustrating.

Confirmed, and appreciated the responses. Regarding your concern, if it’s always connected, could it affect other operations? You mentioned issues in UE5 and similar environments.

It seems the bottom port is just x4 and connects directly to the chipset. I'm not sure if this will limit performance or affect your ability to connect the 3070.

In addition, I have a meshify C case that fits only the 4080, so another card inside would be nearly unfeasible. I'll keep you informed! Thank you!

You're free to take the rough path using boosters and letting the GPUs sit unused inside the enclosure.
