You're considering whether to upgrade your router given your current setup and the speeds you've experienced. Since your plan is up to 500mbps but you're using Wi-Fi 6 on your laptop and older devices, it's worth checking if your home network can handle higher speeds without a wired connection. The fact that your house has old infrastructure might limit options, so evaluating router performance in your specific environment is key.

These rates are just right, you won’t always reach the maximum advertised speed—especially when using Wi-Fi due to how the network operates.

Do you often download large files, such as 40+gb? Unless you're looking for quicker speeds, you're fine. I went from 300/15 to 500/25 via free upgrades, and it’s made a big difference—downloading a game in 20 minutes instead of 30. I’d really prefer 300/100 for myself.

It depends on how much bandwidth you actually need. You might be able to recoup the cost of the new router by selling your old one, and modern routers are now quite budget-friendly, even with Wi-Fi 6.

Your 500 Mbps plan performs around 550 Mbps wirelessly throughout the house. It’s a solid upgrade if you often need higher speeds.

Usually not. I began playing Final Fantasy 14 again, which made me question whether an upgrade was needed since the router's age. I’m pretty confused about networking stuff these days.
