I have an older setup with DDR3 RAM. It has four modules total—two Kingston PC3-10700 and two Patriot PC3-12800H. When I first added the Patriot RAM, I didn’t realize it would run at the slower speed. If I removed the slowest stick and upgraded to 16GB, would there be a noticeable improvement?
It won't be a major issue. If it functions, I'd retain the 32GB storage since extra capacity will stand out more than a slight increase in RAM.
Occasionally it functions, other times it fails. I assisted someone who combined RAM chips and was upset because XMP wasn't enabled. This usually occurs when mixing components. If you're nearing the 16GB limit and 32GB seems ideal, then your memory speed isn't a big concern.
