It seems you meant the Photos app that appears right after installation. You might need to adjust it.

Thanks, but I'm stuck on the "remote procedure call failed" issue. I've checked several things and gave up since it doesn't affect me, so I don't want to reinstall again.

As I mentioned, Photoshop is indeed superior, but it can be significantly better in this case. Think of 3D software; 3DS MAX is the top choice for 3D work, but it still has room for improvement. The interface can be refined, and I also use Blender here. Some people prefer GIMP for different reasons, mainly due to fewer features, which means most functionalities offer more manual control.
